What are Facet Joints?
Zygapophyseal joints, also known as facet joints, are on each side of the vertebrae and connect them. They cover cartilage and are lubricated by synovial fluid, allowing the spine to twist and bend easily. When the cartilage is worn or the joint becomes inflamed, you get facet joint syndrome, the usual cause of chronic back and neck pain.
